Mike is regarded as one of the world’s most accomplished experiential marketers.
With a track record across 70 countries and with activation budgets in excess of $50 million he has led exceptional mega and community campaigns that have repeatedly delivered acclaimed results for the brands his agency, ignition, represents.
While best known for revolutionizing traditional consumer events and sponsorships through his innovation of platforms such as the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour, Mike’s legacy will be his industry leadership in Sustainable Brand Experiences.
After returning to the USA in 2001 from a five-year marketing assignment with Coca-Cola in Southern Africa, Mike took over as ignition’s president in 2007. Since then he has deployed handpicked teams in Beijing, Vancouver, Johannesburg, London and Sochi and successfully brought to market his vision of establishing the first standards for executing Sustainable Brand Events. ignition Sustainability Execution Scorecard (iSES™) is the industry’s only tool for planning, activating and measuring the environmental and social impact of a brand experience.
With six Olympic Torch Relays under his purview, Mike has also set the standard in designing activation models between sponsors and international sporting bodies. Ensuring that fully integrated implementation consistently brings one of the world’s most popular cultural icons to millions of diverse people.

Mike is married to co-owner Cindy-Ann (CA) Hersom and is a proud father to his son André.
