Don't Toss Me Out
How does a major broadcast network combat the steadily increasing problem of food waste in America? We developed the #NoFoodWasted campaign, starting an online conversation over Earth Week 2015 with one goal: Keep Edible Food Out Of The Trashcan.
In key media markets, we partnered with well-known food trucks. The brief: develop a menu item that embodies the spirit of #NoFoodWasted from items you typically toss out. Once the cuisine was perfected, the food trucks hit the street, sampling delicious food and sharing tips on reducing food waste at home. Delivering food in re-usable, eco-friendly containers and sharing our waste less recipes; consumers were invited and equipped to take up our cause.
The #NoFoodWasted campaign became a digital phenomenon. As popular channels in the NBCU family carried our message, stars like Meredith Vieira and Tom Colicchio promoted the #NoFoodWasted cause with interactive chats and digital video content. Our fun hashtag allowed everyone to get in on the conversation – and they sure did – as viewers and celebrities alike began sharing food waste tips and pictures of their waste-free meals. We started the conversation on Earth Week, but families across the U.S. are still talking about being #NoFoodWasted.
